Experience
ExperiencesAs a tutor, I see my overall task as one that merely assists students in achieving their academic and professional goals. I especially take pleasure in the fact that I can focus in on their unique area of need and that through this knowledge I can help them discover the mechanism to address their need. Nothing gives me more gratification than knowing I have empowered a student to realize their greater talents and abilities. Since 1993 I have taught primarily international students of various ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. The majority of the students were aged 18-25 and they were either current graduates or undergraduates. Over the years I have had numerous private tutorials. I predominately taught test preparation skills (TOEFL, ACT, etc.), but I have also frequent tutorials when we focused on writing research papers or other forms of academic writing, analyzing journal articles, and the skills needed for giving formal speeches or conducting debates. In addition to my teaching, I have acquired personal academic experience by earning two graduate degrees from universities in the United Kingdom. Through my MA in Applied Linguistics I not only gained an greater awareness of the subtler nuances of the English language, but in my Principles of Language Teaching I also learned better ways of relating the subject I was teaching to my students. Through my PhD in Film Sound I have been trained in the rigors of research and commitment.
